MILWAUKEE, WI- Summerfest has announced an unlikely last minute replacement for headliner Justin Bieber. John Hinckley Jr., would-be presidential assassin turned musician, will be playing this evening at the American Family Amphitheater.
Former teen-heartthrob, Bieber has rescheduled tour dates due to temporary facial semi-paralysis caused by Ramsay Hunt syndrome. Fortunately, Milwaukee World Festival, Inc., who runs Summerfest found a suitable replacement in time.
“We’re really fortunate John was willing to step up,” said Milwaukee World Festival CEO Don Smiley. “It’s tough looking for a big name on such short notice.”
Driven by his obsession with the performance by an underage Jodie Foster in the Film Taxi Driver, John Hinckley Jr. attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan on March 30, 1981. Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity and was freed from all parole and other court mandated restrictions this month. Hinckley has been releasing music independently since 2020, and yesterday tweeted “I’m looking for a music venue that won’t cave when there’s backlash.”
Also on the bill is Bieber’s original opener Jaden Smith who stated “It’s such a great opportunity to share the stage with a living legend.” Smith will be leaving Bieber’s tour to continue working the road on Hinckley’s Free as a Flying Bullet 2022 World Tour.
