Court Upholds Death Penalty For Illinois Man Who Called Culvers “Gay”
MADISON, WI- There was relief and jubilation in a Madison courtroom today, as the State Supreme Court upheld the death sentence given last month to 24 Luis Lifonick of Chicago, Illinois. Lifonick was traveling through Wisconsin last October with Friends when they stopped in the Dells for food. Witnesses heard Lifonick describe Culvers as “gay” at least twice within earshot of both children and the elderly. He was quickly apprehended by state troopers.
The court heard victim impact statements from a number of people including Governor Evers, Donald Driver, and Ted Perry. In its written decision, the Court acknowledged that Mr. Lifonick’s actions were an attack of the very fabric of society and represented an immediate and ongoing threat to the lives and safety of the general public. The statement read in part, “The death penalty is the only way to deter future acts of violence, and prevent this man’s twisted psyche from poisoning our society.”
