MILWAUKEE – A press conference was held at City Hall today to raise funds for repairs to “Moving City,” Milwaukee’s controversial $88,000 rolling art installation. After weeks of public outrage over the cost, the situation just got worse as the lawn ornament on wheels has already broken down and now needs extensive repairs.
But the city is taking action—finally! Officials briefly considered reallocating funds from public schools and pothole repairs to cover the cost of fixing the broken art piece. However, they’ve decided to turn to the public instead.
Mayor Cavalier Johnson reportedly managed to limp the vehicle down to Chester’s Auto on 13th, only to be shocked by the repair estimate. We spoke with Chester himself to get the details on the costs.
“Look, I told the guy in the suit, it’s gonna be a few days till I get the parts in. Parts plus labor, we’re gonna be looking at around 88 thousand dollars and that’s on the low end.”
Mayor Johnson, meanwhile, reportedly left with a new appreciation for public transit.
In a way, the situation mirrors the plight of the American healthcare system—unexpected breakdowns, eye-watering repair costs, and the hope that crowdfunding will somehow cover it all. All we can only hope for its speedy recovery.
