MILWAUKEE – This city has done much to combat reckless driving in recent years; from stepping up law enforcement, to building an extensive network of speed bumps. Now city officials believe that potholes can actually help make the city more walkable.
“We still have work to do,” said Milwaukee DPW secretary, Ted Stanely. “These kids are just going too darn quick.”
The $24 million plan is slated to begin deconstruction in Spring of 2025. The first phase involves resetting manhole covers to rest at least three inches below the surrounding concrete.
“It’s a correction to a project from this past year on Capitol Ave” says Project foreman, Bill Smith. “We set manhole covers to a 2 inch gap, but Milwaukee drivers didn’t bat an eye. We’re upping the ante this time.”
To create the new potholes, the city will utilize a popular oil drilling method known as ‘fracking.’
“Of course, we value the public’s opinion on this,” Smith said. “If there’s a road where you want a pothole installed, be sure to let us know by submitting a form through the city’s website.”
