MADISON – In an effort to combat the growing deer population, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has announced a new initiative: plow-assisted deer reduction. Basically, they’re letting snowplows do the heavy lifting, literally.
“We’ve been looking for ways to save money, and what better way than to let the plows handle two problems at once?” said Mark Thomas, a DNR spokesperson. “Plus, the plows have been sitting idle all winter.”
The DNR isn’t just plowing through deer for fun, though. They’re claiming that this innovative strategy could help manage the state’s overpopulated deer herds—while saving taxpayers some serious cash.
The DNR’s future plans are clear: “We’re thinking plow-assisted raccoon control could be next on the agenda. Efficiency is the name of the game.
