VATICAN CITY – Spiritual leader Pope Francis was officially traded from the Holy See to the New Orleans Saints ahead of this weekend’s NFL draft. The announcement was live-streamed from the Saints’ Instagram page, with a joint post from the Saints and the Vatican following shortly after.
Pope Francis was known worldwide for his devotion to religious compassion, unity, and reading dusty old books. The 88-year-old has never played American football, however, his proclivity for leadership and direct line of contact to The Big Man are expected to give the Saints an advantage on the field this season.
Catholic NFL fans across the country expressed resounding joy upon hearing the announcement. “This trade combines my three favorite things: professional football, skewed biblical interpretation, and alcohol in excess,” one fan shared.
The Pope was seen stepping out of his Popemobile in New Orleans Sunday evening. He was photographed carrying his duffle bag and shoulder pads, already wearing his helmet with pride.
